Amy Mair has been designing Couture gowns for many years, she launched her label 2 years ago and opened her new showroom boutique in Cardiff city center in 2016.
Amy Mair strives to design innovative collections. Her signature style is subtle glamour; a sharp execution in fit and structure with a balance of flowing movement in fabrics, with a bohemian or alternative charm. Using luxurious fabrics her creations are elegant and timeless.
The designs also have an ethereal feel, a sense of purity and beauty. Amy Mair uses carefully selected fabrics that have been sourced from various suppliers such as a family run company in Madrid.
“I have always wanted to create beautiful gowns that women feel beautiful wearing and use luxurious fabrics to create silhouettes but I started out as a keen artist in school. I knew that I would have to fulfill my dream and lead a path as a creative.
Once I was taught to sew and manipulate form in pattern construction I developed a whole new love and passion for design that was different, more challenging and rewarding for me than painting on canvas.”
After graduating Amy Mair spent time working for designers and couturiers and was then handed an amazing opportunity to work alongside a bridal boutique owner. She was given free reign to design a collection to sell exclusively in a very established bridal boutique. This opportunity gave Amy Mair the platform to establish the Amy Mair Couture brand and later develop the label independently and relocated to the city.
Amy is happiest meeting and consulting with new brides, she thrives off the commitment that brides have to find the perfect dress and helping them find their dream gown whether it be a Amy Mair Couture collection gown, or a bespoke gown made exclusively for the bride.
“Design and making brings me so much joy that I couldn’t imagine undertaking any other career path, being able to do what you love is amazing. I consider myself to be very fortunate.
My passion for nature has always been at the forefront of my creativity, using sources such as woodland, beaches, animals and plants but I incorporate elements of my love of travel, fashion and design also. When traveling to other countries, the experiences I encounter and various cultures also inspire me greatly along with everyday life experiences.
I stay true to my emotions and continue to channel them into my creative work. If I could choose to travel more I am sure it would be a greater source of inspiration in my life. I aim to understand and develop a style to replicate other cultures as well as the British and European fashion market.”
One of her greatest passions is to direct and style photo shoots using her own creations. She adores a location search, it is her aim to direct future Amy Mair Couture collection shoots in European cities such as Paris and Milan using various cultures and architecture as backdrops. She likes to build a story around a collection which later comes together at the photo shoot.
