The process of making a bespoke wedding gown is an extremely intricate and technical one. The journey that takes place from meeting the bride for the first time to them trying on the finished creation is very time consuming yet very rewarding.
One of our most recent real brides, Haddie, has let us document the work that went into creating her mesmerising gown, which she looked beautiful
in on her wedding day.
A bespoke dress is made to measure to fit the body perfectly, which means the bride will feel most comfortable on their special day.
After consulting with the bride and discussing exactly what they desire for
their perfect dress, the design process beings. During this process, as well as drawing up ideas for the dress, we also start to look at fabrics, showing the bride samples and helping them to decide on the perfect fabrics and colours for their gown.
After finalising the design, with the bride’s approval, it’s time to start working on the pattern for the dress. This is made completely from scratch so that the bride knows that their dress is individual and one of a kind.
Haddie’s dress was very on trend as she opted for a corsetry inspired bodice. The pattern was inspired by the intricacy of lingerie, and the idea of taking underwear and turning it into outerwear, this is a big trend at the moment in the bridal and fashion industry.
The bodice of the dress consisted of quite a complex pattern with many panels being attached together to create an elegant structure. The beauty of this dress is the sheer detail that can be seen up close and the simple elegance from afar.
The bust contained pleats to allow for a more flattering fit as well as adding more detail. The panel of lace below the silk bow created a beautiful flow from the bodice to the skirt, another detail that makes this dress individual and special for the bride.
The skirt of the dress was cut on the bias to allow the fabric to fall naturally around the body, creating a beautiful silhouette of the bride.
It’s important throughout the bespoke process to have a close relationship with the bride to ensure they’re happy with every detail. Choosing to have a bespoke dress made is a big decision as the process can take months of work, therefore it’s important for the bride to be in love with their chosen design.
